Meet the people who do the work! Below is more information on our small staff, and mighty team of volunteers.
Lydia Grijalva - Executive Director
Lydia (she or they) joined our team in 2016, when she was hired as our Youth and Education programs coordinator and directed our Youth Print PDX programming. Lydia has served as our ED since December of 2017 after serving as Interim ED for seven months. She's excited to build on top of the important work that KYC has been doing since 2009. Her biggest goals are to create structures that will help KYC continue to grown in a sustainable way, and to make our programming more accessible for people with disabilities.
Stanley Carpenter - Vice Chair
Stanley (he/him/his) is a banker by day, and a Know Your City superstar by night! You can find him tabling at events throughout Portland, spreading the word on how our tours and publications are helping make Portland a better place.
He's been growing with KYC in the last year, and is currently the vice chair of the board.
Fun fact: Stanley loves coffee a ~latte~!
David Robinson - Treasurer
David (he/him/his) is a lawyer with experience in nonprofit, estate planning, business, and employment law. He's also a highly skilled problem solver, and loves taking his dog to the coast.
Fatmah Worfeley - Secretary
Fatmah (she/her/hers) is a youth activist, and the director of Advocacy and Programming at Momentum Alliance. She is pursuing her Political Science bachelors degree with a minor in black studies at PSU.
Michelle DePass - board member
Michelle (she/her/hers) works in the City of Portland Housing Bureau. She was born and raised in Portland, OR, and loves connecting people with the untold stories of Portland.
Simon Tam - board member
Simon (he/him/his) is a musician and activist. He's a member of the band the Slants, and the author of our comic Hung Far Low.
